I may be wrong but you are asking about the Ultima bottom end. Not the whole engine. If that is the case I would stick with HD. Why? Because if you want to resell it you'll be selling a full HD.

If it were me and one of the bikes I typically have doesn't matter because I'll build it and no one will want it after I have cobbled it together

I am a bit puzzled that they say your Stage 2 is the culprit. I don't see how that is possible Stage 2 adds some extra umphh to it but unless HD is drastically under engineering their products it shouldn't matter.

I would think there is a better way to achieve 96 inches than using such a long stroke. Laying into the throttle my rearview mirror would spin around in circles in it's holder, the thing would constantly come loose from the engine vibration. Another bike I built has the Ultima 113" (4.5" stroke), I believe the 107 uses the same bore as the 113 but the stroke is 4.25" which sounds even better to me. Plenty of power without having to tighten every nut and bolt on the bike every month. And yes I used loctite, nylock nuts and didn't overtighten the bolts until they were at their yield limit (because once you overstretch a bolt you can never keep the thing tight).

you'd be surprised at how many people don't get that. They see that the manual says says 35 ftlbs and they think WTF I'll do 50 ft lbs.

Torque settings are important in building a motor especially and folks just don't pay attention.
