Easyriders Crafty Custom contest, I need advice.
So here is the story. I entered my bike into the Crafty Customs contest that Easyriders was putting on this year. To sum it up, your bike has to be between 1990-1999 and be built for less than $9999. My bike ended up being featured in the July '11 issue.
They have a total of 34 bikes that are going to be featured in 4 different Easyrider and their associate magazines (Biker, In The Wind, V-Twin, Easyriders)
To be eligible for the $10k, you have to bring your bike to the Easyriders motorcycle show in Anahiem CA. The show is 1,900 miles away from my house! They are offering $0.15/mile reimbursment for any of the monthly winners who show up at the show.
Keeping in mind that at least 18-20 of the 34 bikes are located east of the mississippi river, it seems like my odds of winning should be much better than 1 in 34. I believe it is pretty safe to assume that many of the bikes east of the mississippi will not make it.
It will cost me about $1k in fuel to drive out there, 2 nights in a hotel (one each way) and while there I would need a room for 2-3 nights. The total trip would cost me about $1500-1800 and the show would reimburse me about $500-600 for the expenses.
Think I should go? Its a chance to win $10k.......

If you rely on the math, stay home. I voted in the poll for you to go since:
Your bike is real nice
The event will be fun
You will gain increased knowledge & experience
However, these are like beauty contests. Even if your scoot was the hottest on the planet, ever notice how the most beautiful girl rarely wins the pageants?

If you want to go, then go and have a good time. If you win then enjoy it as a bonus.
If you are going to be upset with anything less than 1st place then don't go.
I don't give a crap.
