ethanol in gasoline
#13
I can't speak for anyone else but I've never had a problem running E10 gasoline in any of my bikes. I think this is a good example of people creating a problem were there isn't one but if going out of your way to get ethanol-free gas helps you sleep better at night then more power to you.

If you are worried just go to Walmart and buy a bottle of marine stabil and run that in your fuel if you store it in the tank for more than 4 weeks. Marine Stabil counteracts the effects of ethanol in gasoline and has an additive that helps burn off water absorbed by ethanol. 1 ounce treats 5 gallons of gas for a year. A small $5 bottle will last me 12 months as I use it 1/2 strength. I have had E10 gas sit for 8 months with no ill effects.

I love these threads lol
I've been using and testing E85 for 4 or 5 years now it doesnt do all these things that ppl say it does.
I know from personal experience not hear say.

Turning food into fuel isn't a good idea. Turning anything into a less efficient fuel and still believing it somehow saves anything is downright silly. The thing that drives the ethanol industry is gov. Incentives.$$$$$$$$
And farmers, refiners, speculators all want a piece of the pie, or you could
say "corn bread."

Give a reference, E85 used in my...(flexfuel)(or HD). I used E85 for the octane, a mix like 50/50 to up it to 98. Gave me headaches until I upgraded/rebuilt my Carbs & rubber/lines.

While Zap makes excellent points about the logic of using ethanol in fuel, I can tell you this.
For the last 5-7 years or so here in Eastern PA we have had nothing but gas with 10% ethanol in it. I have two carbureted bikes, one with fuel injection, and a '65 Mustang with a carb'd 289. None of them have experienced any fuel related problems. My o-rings have not melted into goo. My fuel mileage has stayed pretty respectable. I've ridden my RoadGlide to states where pure gas is sold and noticed no better performance or gas mileage. So, in my personal experience, I'm in agreement with Bluehighway. 10% Ethanol has been demonized and blamed for causing a whole lot of problems that I personally have not seen in anything I have owned for the last several years. But, if given the choice, I would rather eat corn than distill it into fuel.
