When you refer to de-cel pops are the pops loud say like firecrackers or just a crackle sound. I have a set of V&H Twin Slash slipons, no other mods made and I don't hear any loud pops just a crackle on de-cel is this normal and will there be any damage to engine.

Is attempting to tune a bike myself overzealous?
for a fuel injected bike "decent hand tool experience" will only allow you to take off the seat to access the ecu. To tune anything EFI you will need something electronic to interface with the ecu and a bit of computer savy to use the software that runs the interface.

That sounds great except the bike need more than a single run cycle to compensate.
Op. Ride the bike normally for a few days before going hog wild. The ecu will compensate for your mods but it only makes small changes per run cycle.
The new bike,and old bikes will compensate for the added airflow,it just takes time.
