A Catawba County woman faces DWI charges after a head-on collision Tuesday evening that left a father and son dead in Burke County, the N.C. Highway Patrol says.
Amie Jo Skeen, 39, was charged with DWI and felony hit and run after troopers say she clipped the side of one motorcycle and then smashed into another.
The crashes happened shortly after 6 p.m. on Airport-Rhodhiss Road, near the Long View community. That is near the Burke-Catawba county line.
Troopers say a vehicle headed eastbound on Airport-Rhodhiss Road sideswiped a motorcycle and kept going. Moments later, according to investigators, the car smashed head-on into a second motorcycle.
Steven Moody, who was driving the motorcycle, and his 19-year-old son Kevin Moody, both of Connelly Springs, were killed. The two people on the first motorcycle suffered minor injuries.
Pictures from the scene showed a mangled motorcycle in pieces and a minivan with damage to its front hood.
Troopers say the driver of the van kept going for about a half-mile before pulling into a wooded area, possibly to hide the vehicle. But a witness had followed the vehicle after the crash and led troopers to the driver.
Skeen was arrested by troopers a short time later in a wooded area near the road.
Skeen attempted to kick a WSOC-TV reporter who was on the scene and tried to question her, according to the news station.
Skeen told the TV station she was high on drugs, but not driving. "I couldn't have been driving. I was too high," she said.
Skeen has a lengthy criminal record. She has several convictions dating to the mid-1990s for driving without a license or while her license was revoked. In 2007, she was convicted of felony possession of cocaine. In 1996 she was convicted on a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

locked away is not good enough... they should put her on a bicycle with duct tape... roll her down a hill into the side of her own mini van until she is dead or until she is passed out from getting messed up... wait until she wakes up and do it again, until she is dead... that is my opinion of course... a mistake is one thing but she sounds like a peice of crap that needs to be flushed, plunged and flashed again...

This is unacceptable and only the harshest of penalties is close enough to true justice. I pray for the family and have nothing but praise for the people who helped police find this selfish drunken bitch.
