Here's something you don't read about every day:

Spectator injured at Epping motorcycle burn-out record attempt

By Jason Schreiber
Union Leader Correspondent
Published Oct 17, 2011 at 11:51 am (Updated Oct 17, 2011)

EPPING - A spectator was seriously injured Sunday when she was struck by a motorcycle shortly after hundreds of bikers tried to break a record for the most motorcycles doing a burn-out at the same time, police said.

Police Sgt. Jason Newman said the accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. during a private event held at race track at New England Dragway on Route 27.

Newman said the event was hosted by the Chop Shop Pub in Seabrook and the goal was to successfully break a Guinness World Record for the most motorcycles doing a burn-out at the same time. He said hundreds of motorcycles participated to break the record, but as many motorcycles were leaving the track a participant attempted to do another burnout on his own.

That motorcyclist lost control of the bike and struck another participant's motorcycle, causing the second motorcycle to crash through starting line equipment owned by New England Dragway, Newman said. The second motorcycle then struck a spectator who was standing nearby.

The spectator was identified as Bobbi Peckham, 52, of Belmont, Maine. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to the Exeter Hospital.

The driver of the second motorcycle, 36-year-old Keith Devincentis of Derry, received minor injuries.

Newman said the driver who caused the accident fled the scene before police arrived. Witnesses described the driver as a male driving an unknown style motorcycle.

Police are attempting to identify the driver and asking for the public's help.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Epping Police Department at 679-5122.

That's an example of an unfortunate accident that could have easily been avoided. Hopefully the victim recovers quickly...

as much as i like almost everything motorcycle related, this has got to be one of the dumbest records i've heard of.

does anyone really care how many bikes did a burnout at the same time...

must be great fun inhaling all that burning rubber.

I wouldn't protect the rider that caused it if I was there and knew more.
IMO its no different than when any bike rider gets smoked by a stupid act by a someone in a cager.

It's possible that the rider was a m/c member. His brothers of course wouldn't ID him and others might be intimidated. Just a thought. I feel very bad for the innocent person who got hurt.
