I wanted a bike. I didn't think financing an expensive bike was going to be an option.

I looked at other bikes but nothing captured the elusive "American Spirit" like a Harley Davidson.
There's something about one when you sit on it, v-twin idleing that takes you to a new place.
The phrase "If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand" holds serious validity when dealing with HD.
There was no option to it. If I had bought something else I would have always wondered what a HD would be like.

The bikes have character, and tendancies, unlike other more "friendly" and "reliable" brands.

I heard a very veteran biker (who owns several bikes of various makes) say about his bikes:
"The Kawi is the greatest of the sports tour class that you could want.
The Goldwing is a heartless, souless machine that performs well at getting you from point A to point B.
The Ultra has character and personality."

He said this (roughly paraphrased) as he rode his Ultra around all through the weekend. There's more to HD than what meets the eye, and what meets the eye declares enough in itself.

To answer your original question however - I bought the bike and found a community around it, not to belong to one or to get into one. Dayum proud of my purchase too.

 

When I bought my Harley, it was because I had always wanted one. I never thought about joining any community, I just bought it because I wanted to realize a longtime dream. As for the community thing, I like to word it differently, I found that after I bought my Harley that I had a lot in common with a lot of people, the love of feeling the freedom when I ride and the wind in my face.

 

I bought mine and the community came along as part of the package.

 

FWIW, I bought my Harley because I always wanted one, it is the personification of a motorcycle, always has been for me, always will be. Could care less about all the peripheral crap that goes with it.

Since "Student" appears to be a hit and run poster, maybe he's out visiting Red E Glide.
