It's our forklift Zeus. We have to send in used oil samples to keep our warantee with caterpillar so the first 2 uoa were at 200 hrs and blackstone said the oil wasn't half depleted and we could run the interval about double so the last one was at 400 hrs and blackstone said 10% left. The forklift doesn't do any real driving at speed but it does run 10 hrs a day. We never shut it off. The constant starting cooks starters so I would rather leave it run and pay the extra in fuel than the crazy bill it would be to have a tech cine insure and replace the starter.

 

It wouldn't be equal to 40000 miles because it never revs above 2000 rpm. But diesels have insane combustion temps and tend to shear Dino oil fast. The rotella T6 5w-40 is their new spec. Amazing stuff. I use it in my yammy with a shared sump. The valvetrain used to sound like a can of marbles,it sounds like a sewing machine with rotella. I am gonna put it in my Harley now that it's cold in the mornings. The 5w-40 will get to the top end almost immediately.A 20w-50 would flow very slowly in these morning temps and accelerate cold start wear

 

I was just saying that if you ran a harley for for 400 hours you'd go about 40,000 km. So yeah, I'm with you on that. I didn't think you drove your forklift on the highway. lol.

 

Mobil 1 is now offered in seven different grades and not all are created equal. The
highest performing Mobil 1 oils are their "Extended Life" oils with the gold cap and
their test results are up there with the best synthetics - not so with some of their
others. FYI.

 

The gold cap oil is their group 4 basestock oil which is a true synthetic. Everything else is a group 3 (hydrocracked conventional) the tri-syn label and group 2 which is 100% dino. All of anxious products are minimum group 4 and some group 5 basestocks and all of red-lines oils are group 4 and 5 basestocks as well. 5 being the best there is.

 

The rotella T6 5w-40 is what I have been using for the past 10k miles.

 

For what it's worth, the non energy conserving Mobil-1 oil is OK for the bikes that do share oil, engine/clutch, so it certainly is fine in the HD. I used the Mobil-1 10W-40 in my Kaw 1600 Nomad. Waste your money on "motorcycle oil" if you want.

I love these oil threads, it brings out the "best" in people.

 

My guess is you have poured through the oil threads over on Rennlist and Pelican. The "experts" seemed to think that the Mobil 1 V-twin was great for an air cooled motor. Can't remember the specifics, but I think something to do with Boron content. There was much chagrin about the "new improved" Mobil 1 (non V-twin) which had lower Boron levels than it's previous blend.

I ran Rotella with Eos in my 964. But, I got sucked into that one too, and as a result, run the V-twin in my BMWs and Ultra. I'll probably stick with that.

 

What it boils down to is this - most all oil will protect your engine just fine. Use whatever oil gives you that warm fuzzy feeling every time you fire that thing up!

 

I have read that the Mobil 1, 15-50 does thin out a little more than the 20-50. It ended up more like a 15-40 after a short time.
Still its a Syn oil so it will take the heat of Our motors.

I wouldn't use a car oil in the primary, most have friction enhancers that I wouldn't want in with the clutch plates.
