Bugs arent bad in Alaska, most of the time. The mosquitos can be bad, depending on the area and time of year.

I can say ohio and indiana isnt too bad, but the riding isnt all the special. But if your around cornfields after a good rain the flying ants come out in droves... I usually dont ride for about 2 weeks that time of year. Its sucks having to wash your trucks windshield everynight after getting off work...

I rode from Mexico to Alaska in August and it wasn't bad at all. On the way back, we rode the Pacific Coast. No bugs either. Every Sept. we usually take a two week ride. Been through Utah, Colorado, Arizona. California, Oregon, and Nevada. Never had a problem with bugs. The trick is to be off the roads before dusk.

Man up and squish the bugs for her, it's one of your main responsibilities as a husband.

Man, that's a good one.

Some of the biggest bugs have to be in North Dakota. When stationed at Minot, some guys tried to upload some nukes on a mesquito that landed in the B52 area.

But the most? I'd have to go with the stretch of highway between Amarillo and Albuquerque. Man alive. We stopped at a store to get something to drink and just about couldn't get back in the car. Flies! Flies swarmed the front of the car because of all the dead bugs on it. It was pretty gross and one reason I may never ride a bike thru that area.

Memo to myself: Forget the retirement plan back east or down south. We have no bugs -- as in no bugs -- from May to November and then winter comes. Sure there are a very few skeeters from February to April. And you might have a half dozen critters on your bike after a 100 mile ride. But then again you might not.

NorCal rules for riding...
