Angry harley davidson gift cards bad news

ok, ive got a gift card from a dealership in indianapolis, i got it 5 years ago, i know, i lost it, i recently had cancer surgery and sitting at home started going through all the old paid bills and throwing out alot of paper, i found the gift card, well thinking gift cards never expire i went to said dealership to get a new hoodie for me and the wife, the sales clerk informed me that the card was old(knew that)and they no longer honored them(surprise)took a couple emails to the dealership to receive a response stating the company that was used is no longer in business and no way to check balance, ive got the original receipt and the company is guess who, the dealership which is still in business, ill call corporate tomorrow, anyone ever had a similar problem?

Look at the fine print on the card. If it doesn't say anything about fees or expiration, I'd do my best to insist that they honor it.

only thing it says about expiration is
an administrative fee may be assesed after a period of inactivity as allowed by law

This isn't the gift card that some jerk has been spamming over here,is it? lol.
J/K. Yeah, read the fine print. If it does not have any expiration date or fees listed, push the issue. If you get nowhere, call the 1-800 number on the back and see if they can resolve it. A gift card is a contract, and like all contracts there are conditions and terms that both you and the business have to uphold. Expiration dates cannot be implied.

Check your State laws regarding gift cards. That would be your best bet.
Good luck.

There has been many consumer articles over the years identifying that gift cards have expiration dates.

I thought gift cards were per dealership and had nothing to do with corporate. Am I wrong about this?
