After 40 Years of Riding - I hit the deck yesterday

Wow. That could have been much worse, glad it wasn't. Somebody wants you around to educate us. No matter what people choose, it's good to have as much information as possible and you provided quite a bit, thank you.

Very thoughtful analysis of the situation. The one accident I had 3 years ago did not produce a slide far enough to wear my jeans through, though my leather jacket got scuffed. The one thing I always pay close attention to is sand, pebbles and oil on the road when stopping and turning, I never let my guard down in that respect. Glad you're basically ok and the bike, too. Going to empty parking lots occaisionally to practice slow speed maneuvers keeps me "up to speed", so to speak.

Nice report and glad you were not injured more seriously. I recently dropped my bike in the mud returning from the Arctic Circle. I was going slow and was lucky enough to not hit the ground myself. I just sort of stepped off the bike. I am older than you and feel like I am in good shape but I know healing takes longer when one is older and that is my worry.
