Default Buddie called with starter troubles

Buddie of mine called today and told me he was going down the road last week and all of a sudden he heard this grinding noise. Here for no reason the starter would engage itself. He stopped the bike and shut it down and it would start back up and be fine then a couple miles down the road it did it again. In order to get home he started the bike and then took off the starter wire so it would not engage . It is an 05 Road King. Have any of you guys ever heard of this happening and what might be the fix. Or where should we start to look. Could it be the push button switch on the bars itself.?

Could be the switch. This is the most likely problem. Usually when a switch goes out though, it just doesn't work anymore. Count be a contact inside the switch, check it first and move on from there.
