Legality Question
Hey all,
I have a nagging issue. I've been looking into side mounting my plate on my Sporty, but the local Harley dealer tells me that the H-D kit is not legal in Nova Scotia.

Does anyone else live in a place where it's not legal either?

Hey Bill,
I live up near Truro. Welcome to the Forum.
I say buy it and put it on yourself. I've seen lots of guys around NS with the side plate on. The chances of getting pulled over are slim to nil I would think.
I would take your chances because that's a sweet mod.
Cheers

I've got a buddy in Washington state with a Victory that occasionally gets hassled over it. He says for the $400 he paid for it he will deal with the LEO's when they hassle him over it.....

Can't say as to other states.

I think you should be fine. It's one of those laws that the police only enforce if you're being a dick, or if they're profiling.
I think the penalty is greater if you trim the plate to make it fit the mount. Make sure the HD part is the right size for Canadian plates. I know the layback kit I originally bought for my wife's sporty was for US size plates and I had to exchange it.

In the U.S., the law varies from state to state. And, as someone else mentioned, it's not about being horizontal, the issue is being able to see it from all angles when behind you.
I choose to pass on anything that increases my odds on getting pulled over. But that's just me.
