From what I remember of them The older Harley spaghetti dirt bikes from the 60's and 70's were on the lame side but as I recall the MT 500's were pretty much military issue bikes. I don't know if they were used by the U.S. military or not but I think Canada and Great Britain were using them.

The MT500 was a NATO release. I've seen a few of them up close and personal. Can't remember anything about them and I can't find the spec sheets.

I believe the MT-500's came out way after Harley sold the Aeromachi factory in Italy. I can't remember who produced them or where they were made. I remember reading about them when they came out though.

1992 models. Rodax 349cc 4-stroke single cylinder aircooled engine. 5-speed,2.85 gallon fuel tank,358 pounds, top road speed @79 mph, fording depth of 12". I saw one at a Florida dealer back a few years ago with a "Not For Sale" sign on it. I saw the pictures on the ones in the Gov't Liquidation sale and they look in pretty rough shape. If you've got the time, know-how, tools, patience, access to parts or are able to fabricate some of your own, a way to get it from Montana to your doorstep, it would be a pretty cool project to mess with. I would think in their condition, if you really wanted to mess with one, you'd be able to bid on one (they had 3 or 4) and get it pretty cheap. Close up of the odometers showed only an average of @ 2000 miles on them, but again, they were pretty rough. Maybe the odometers went around once or twice. The guy's phone number is on their site if you wanted to persue it.
