Just thought I'd bring this up since it's homecoming night here (I have 2 teenagers going out tonight); I do this all the time to my daughters' friends who drive. I pull 'em aside and tell 'em the usual "be careful speech" & so on & so forth. But I stress very heavily "watch for motorcycles, they got just as much right to be on the road as cars." You know, the whole nine yards until they think I'm a dick but I bet they're thinkin' about it. It somehow makes me feel like maybe the general awareness is raised so that maybe even one life will be saved or a close call will be avoided. Anybody else here taking preemptive measures like this?

Oh, you think they're thinking about motorcycles when they're out having fun, smoking pot, and underage drinking?

2 minutes after you talk to them,all they have on their minds is sex,texting,and cigarettes.

I have never talked to my kids about sex, safe driving, etc... mostly because I don't have any kids. But if I did, it would all be a part of being a responsible parent. You are doing good, and thanks for passing along the word to others here!

Lord no, but it wasn't long ago that I was one. I know exactly what's going through a teenagers head.

 

this is what they hear, blah, blah, blah, blah, motorcycle, blah, blah, blah.

Then, it's "Can I have some money for gas Dad?"

I hear you though, I have 2 myself and give them "the lecture" every chance I get.

 

exemexer, great job talking to your kids about being responsible. More parents need to do the same.


Dickey, The man is trying to raise his kids. Just because you ignored your parents advice does not mean he is wasting his breath.

 

you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. all we can do as parents is show the kids the right path and hope they take it.

 

+1, same thing I was wondering. Believe it or not, some kids are responsible, and if you spend time and talk, they listen, you at least have to try.
