When is it time to trade?

A couple of years ago, I was looking at a Road King. The dealer was knocking off $2,000. I balked at their trade-in offer, which I would be thrilled to get today. I regret not pulling the trigger...
Like many of us, I'm always looking at the new models and taking demo rides. I've discovered that as hard as they try, HD doesn't make my perfect bike. I would have to pony-up some serious cash to buy a new Harley and then throw more money at it to get it right.
That being said, I still enjoy my Dyna and it's paid off. It does what I need it to do. I will purchase a new bike one day, but I'm not sure that in this economy, it would make me happier.

ive bought new every year, since 2005.
different models,maufactureres and engine sizes.
why?, fancied a change, and had more cash than sense.
i got my wide glide in jan this year, and its a keeper.
i may buy a 2nd bike, but this ones definately a keeper.

Well, with a car the rule is usually when the cost of repairs/maintenance exceeds the value of the vehicle.
For a Harley, I think I would go with the wisdom of our peers...when you feel the call of a new ride and the old one just doesn't do it for you like the old one did.

Don't forget that misfortune may force someone to trade down, for financial reasons, perhaps. Wrecking can be a reason to trade.
Long ago I traded a like-new BMW for a new Harley because the BMW just didn't grab me. My latest Harley replaces one that I wrecked, and I see no reason to trade it until I am physically unable to handle the Harley (I'm 67). This one seems like a good one, uses NO oil between changes, and has proven 100% reliable. There isn't another bike out there that I'd rather have, though I loved my FXRS. A few modifications are in the works for improving luggage and seat but the Dyna suits me.

About every 5 years and buy the ESP so whom ever buys it gets a little warranty for a couple years. I intend on keeping my Limited this time I am 50 now and think I will buy another bike for shorter trips and cruising the back roads.

I have had my XL50 for almost 3 years now, all my other bikes did nto make it so long with me LOL! I get borad with vehicles alto so always selling and trading. as of late the XL50 is the only vehicle that has stayed with me.

There are, IMHO, only 3 times to trade:
1. When there is an issue that cannot be resolved, or is too expensive to resolve. Like with a woman.
2. When you look at your bike & it no longer "does it for you". Like with a woman.
3. When something you like better comes along. Like with a woman.
