Some young girl was about 3 inches from the rear of my bike at 45 mph for about two miles...she was on the cell phone at the same time. We get to a stop light and she gets in the right lane and I start cussing her out about tailgaiting me. She gets annoyed look rolls up her window and goes back to her cell phone call.
People are idiots. Most of them couldn't care less if you live or die. In my car I have had people tailgating me so closely that when I stop they swerve into the lane going the other way. When they finally get past me they tail gate the person in front of me. Most people are just plain stupid. They will never learn.

I've been riding for over 33 years. I've been run off the road, swerved at, had idiots tailgate me just 'cause they were idiots and others tailgate 'cause they wanted to mess with a biker, had more fools than I can count do the left turn trick, and probably had several other stupids do things trying to kill me. I expect it every time I see a vehicle ahead, behind, or to either side of me.
Here's the secret to gettin' through it, and gettin' over it: Expect the absolute worst, every time, all the time, and prepare for it, every time, all the time. Don't waste your adrenaline gettin' mad 'cause it does absolutely zero good; the idiots you get mad at don't care, except to do whatever it takes to get you out of their face. And gettin' as mad as some of y'all seem to be gettin', and doin' some of the stuff I've been readin' in here, just cuts time off your life. That translates into less ridin' time in your life, and that is a bad thing!

Poco,
I sure agree that many of them just flat don't care, and that is cause they do not care about and are not charitable to their fellow mankind. And if they don't care, and LEO's aren't given time to police the reckless drivers anymore and if I wanta live (and not be pi$$ed all the time) then just need to have great defensive driving skills. I cover my brakes a lot anymore. Spot a lot of the cagers that may do something wrong, and just avoid their danger zone.
Sounds like I'm biased... but, ya know, it sure appears from real observation that one of the safest groups of motor vehicle ops anymore is those on heavy weight bikes.. Harleys, wings, some beemers and others. Sure, lots of crazy exceptions to that!!, but we're pretty defenseless when the wheels start skidding. Thanks for your post on this huge and worsening issue.
