You guys be careful... Just got leveled by a guy not paying attention.

To the OP.
Firstly, and most importantly, glad to hear you are relatively unscathed...
Now, I have many friends that are highly religious, and tend to shy away from lawyers in these types of situations as they want to rely on the "common decency of man". Understand one thing, the "older gentleman" that hit you likely has top-tier insurance that have no "common decency". They will do everything that they can, to minimize their exposure (meaning not pay for your losses).
As a few others have said above, GET AN ATTORNEY NOW. Before you go to sleep tonight. It is not about being a shyster, it is about being appropriately reimbursed for losses.

hope you're going to be ok. get well soon.
I always keep an eye out of traffic behind me for the reason this thread was made. If they don't look like they are slowing down, I'm pulling ahead and I'll turn around and come back. I've already saved my own *** twice this month from people not slowing down. Once I pulled ahead, and once I just pulled off the road in time.

Glad to hear you're ok! Had a similar incident earlier this summer. Didn't fair quite as well as you did but I'm alive and should be able to ride again in about a year. Like many others have said, get a good lawyer! If you need to talk, feel free to PM me! It helped me a lot!

Great to know your up and talking about it.
I have been riding for 47 years and I've never seen people so inatentive while driving. Between the cell phones,GPS's, and medication that the Dr.s so freely prescribe it's really bad out there.
Pay close attention to your injuries, and take the appropriate medical and legal steps to protect you and your family.

Gods speed in your recovery, If you choose to ride again try this. I started wearing one this summer. the orange is way brighter than the photo. It catches your eye even when you are only looking in the general direction of the jacket. I believe it increases your odds of being seen.....even when the driver isn't paying attention

Not a good day for you but you were fortunate it wasn't worse. I always try to keep on eye behind be while stopped and have an escape rout if I see someone barreling down on me. The few times I don't, I think to myself afterwards, "damn, pay attention!!"
We put a lot of trust in other drivers while out there riding.....they can take us out at any given moment. I know that there are some guys out there who say they don't trust anyone while riding, and that's true to a degree but when you think about it there's some level of trust we have for them to do what they're supposed to do. When we're taking on a twisty at 45mph and in a lean as another vehicle is passing in the opposite direction, we have to trust they will stay in their lane. Not much of an escape rout in that situation.
We can pay attention all we want, but sometimes we have to rely on a little luck.
