RE: Jackets as Gear vs Jackets as Fashion
Check out the "willie G" jacket at Harley. Zip out liner, sleeves come off,and vents in front and back. It's impenetrable when it comes to cold weather and turns into a vest when its nice
The only thing That I don't like about it is that it ways more than my bike. One thing that I learned about mmotorcycle jackets is that they generally have longer sleeves than the
"pretty ones" When it's 35 degrees and you're going 75mph you don't want you're sleeves half way to your elbows.

You can get protective leather jackets that also look good. And my DOT shorty is not much different than the ones for show.

Fox Creek Too! Now I got a Lost Worlds yesterday (off ebay) that is a stitch for stitch copy of the Buco J-23 D Pocket. Thick 4mm Horsehide and comfortable too. Rode in this morning 32 degrees and was more than warm the whole way. I sold my Harley gear on ebay to get this....I did good.

Function over fashion. Go with a high quality leather jacket like something from
Fox Creek leather. High quality, fair price and made in the USA. I love the smell
of leather in the morning!

I buy jackets based on function , all 4 of mine have CE armor in the shoulders.elbows/spine. Having been in a near fatal crash , safety is my main concern. I do like them to look nice, but that is secondary .. I had 1 HD jacket that just gave up the ghost , 2 Tourmasters which are killer , and 1 PowerTrip mesh. I've got a 3rd Tourmaster on order to replace my old HD jacket.

i bought a nice heavy, armored leather jkt at a local dealer a couple years ago. i paid about $250 for it (which is a great price for the quality) armor in the elbows/arms, spine, venting and removable liner. tapered arms (to fit gloves OVER the jkt) and a nice snug neck snap.
the only other leather that i want is the FXRG... but for the price, i cant justify it when my leather is fine.

I use a Wilson Leather Jacket for the Winter Time and for Summer, a www.power-trip.com jacket "Vodoo".(Textile)
It is well vented and all the padding.
