Do you pass on the double yellow?
There are "too fast threads", "too slow threads", and in both cases passing on the double yellow is mentioned. Some feel it is ok, and some not so much. I'm curious - where do most people stand on this?
Btw - I use the word "wrong" in the poll because I'm wondering about your personal take. We all know it's illegal, but many think the laws are too conservative and more tailored for cars and trucks.

Generally, the road has a double yellow line because the visibility is below the safe standard for passing at the posted speed in that area of the road.
Personally, I think people who disregard them are idiots.

Or if you're behind someone that's driving in an unsafe manner.
Plus, I'm not going to sit behind a farm truck hauling hay bales at 30mph under the speed limit.

Double yellow indicates where it is safe for a Coca Cola truck to pass.
Especially if traffic is building up behind you, sometimes it is safer to get out of there.
Highways are designed for cars & trucks. Guard rails are a good example-- they can keep a car on the highway & tear a biker into pieces.
I consider the space between the double lines as my emergency lane.

In this area we have people die every month from head on collisions from passing on a double yellow. Last week it was 2 people. Just await and pass when it is safe. You have to LIVE, to be able to ride.

Good example we experience all the time around my home: farm equipment on the road. Assuming adequate visibility, I can safely pass a John Deere tractor going 15-mph and never even get up to the posted speed limit(!)

Another topic I know, but those new barriers that they are putting up in grass medians everywhere - the ones with the posts and cables to keep the oncoming cars from plowing into you if they screw up - scare the crap outta me. It would be like being tossed into a giant veg-o matic.
