I don't know if this is some kind of trend but I've noticed that most of the passing zones I used to take advantage of are now double yellow. However, I will still pass farm vehicles, Amish buggies and horse trailers as long as there's no doubt that it will be safe.

Um, the idea of a head-on on my bike isn't really appealing. .

I just did it at lunch today, stuck behind an old bird driving 15 in a 40, couldn't take it and I was running late getting back to work. I don't make a habit out of it but I do do it, I also run red lights occasionally when the bike doesn't trigger the signal.

You have to use your judgment. That's why you have it. Oh, you don't??

I voted "Yes, it's okay under certain conditions " because sometimes getting as far away from a driver that is clearly incapable of negotiating their vehicle through a turn or even driving in a straight line, the safest thing to do is put some distance between the two of you.
Either slow down and let them gain distance ahead of you, turn around or pass them on a double yellow when SAFE conditions allow. There are a lot of double yellow lines in my area with hundreds of yards of visibility. Plenty of reaction time even with a speeder from oncomming traffic to go around a scary driver.

As of July 1, that is now legal for motorcycles in Virginia.

So, I'd never seen that video before. Should I feel bad for laughing? Sorry, but that dude on the bike is an idiot.

Around my neck of the woods, you'd never get ANYWHERE without a little double yellow dancin'. On certain days of the week we have more Amish buggies than Obama has plans for your money. Although it's actually legal to pass them...
