Guys that have to ride 100mph - Rant
#71
Well, I'll be damned...7 pages of replies and almost everyone agrees with me. I truly find this strange, as it must be the guys I hang out with. I've been riding all my life, and majority of guys I know want to ride full throttle, 99% of the time.
I figured for sure some of the "embarrassed to get passed on a motorcycle" guys would chime in. And nothing against those guys personally, as noted in the original post, my best friend is like that.
I'd been thinking about this for a while now, and especially since this last Sturgis trip. I ride half way across the country, alone, in complete bliss and when I finally meet up with some buddies, they have be full f'cking throttle absolutely every where they went.
It's not about "riding outside" any comfort zones either (well, maybe for some, but not me). It's about being able to relax. High speeds might be fun, but you sure can't relax.
My 2 cents. Thanks for the replies.

I don't cruise terribly fast, many tickets and sights have slowed me down, but I sure like to get to cruising speed quick

I'm not questioning 130mph, but going riding after just "several" drinks seems a bit amateur. I take it you haven't been drinking long ?

I have a strict zero tolerance policy. I NEVER mix alcohol and riding, and I humbly suggest that others consider doing the same.

Back then we were riding Shovels and Ironhead Sportsters and we were young and bulletproof.
We get together once or twice a year and "***** out" is about 20mph slower than it used to be, but still fun on occasion.
I really doubt I'd enjoy it all the time the way we used ride.
Taking track schools and racing also took a lot of wind out of my sails. I feel a lot more vulnerable on the street than on the track and try not to push it.
One of the biggest reasons I still ride HD and specially my old Shovelhead is so I DON'T ride over my head.

Haha...I strongly believe that if he were drunk enuff to take his trike to 130 he was surely too drunk to remember it
