Personally, on a softail I don't care for the feeling of being on the edge of parasailing off the back of the bike, I took it up to 95 one time, thought my helmet was going to stretch my neck 2", and then I looked at the little white lines going by my feet so fast they were a blur of one line. It slowed me right back down to think of how fast those would turn red if something went wrong :-)

FYI...I know exactly what you mean as I have a neighbor that does this **** all the time. We suspect that it may be b/c his cruiser is not a Harley and for some reason that causes him some insecurity.....truth is we don't care what he rides. We finally starting joking (not really) with him about this and he seems to have calmed down. Frankly I thought it was dangerous to others as well as our group.

How did riding rice come into this thread. I don't see it mentioned anywhere by the OP.

Good answer. My buddy John Bradley told me the same thing years ago the first time we rode together.
Anyone whose ever been on a LD ride with me since then has gotten the same explanation.

I'm with ya' on this'n Fleabite.

I've always just assumed that those guys who have to fly by and fly in front of everything probably have really small peckers. They're most likely compensating for another variation of little-guy syndrome.

I ride pretty slow.

When I ride with guys who feel the need to speed they are usually up there riding alone. I'll do 5-10 over if the conditions are ok (clear roads, good weather..etc). What makes me laugh are the "Clingy" types who feel like everyone has to be part of the "pack" while they are doing 90mph. I'm not much of a team player when it comes to group riding. I do what I want.

Going fast around other traffic....no, 80 or so is fine.
When out in barren highway areas...no-mans land, and I'm riding alone...I don't mind squirting up a hundred for a bit. I don't think I've had current Dyna past 105...maybe 108. But it's not often...would rather roll safe and get home to family.

Back in my teens and twenties though...yeah I was an idiot doing that every single day...every day I'd be doing over 100.

I stay around the speed limit, maybe 5 over or so on the highway or interstate. Country roads I tend to find myself doing 50 or so. Didn't used to be that way........must be getting old

's 80 mph on my ride. Quick twist for a thrill but pretty much my limit on the highway.
