Just Dave,
You made an assumption just because I spent $400 on a safety item for my bike I must have 'piles of money and all this money to **** away.'
. Nope. Quite the opposite. I saw this light a long time ago and set aside $10 per paycheck for the last two years to pay for it. Turns out I am a poor working stiff just like you.

Are they too expensive? Yes. Are they the brightest light available?
Again, yes. For me and my family, saving up for this item was more than worth it.

Your mileage may vary. Ride safe.

No reflectors of any kind. He had a tail light mounted low on the left side that all but disappeared in the sea of bright tail lights and on coming headlights from the cars around him. On top of the dim tail light and ninja garb he kept his foot off the brake pedal while stopped a the next few lights which made him even harder to see. I guess you do not naturally look down either to see a tail light when all the cars have their tail lights ~3ft off the ground. Made me think this guy is going to get smucked sooner or later by someone not focused 100% on their driving.

Want a bright tail light and you have the good old 1157 bulb type ? A $7 halogen 1157 bulb , used them in the 70's corvettes any decent parts house will have them ............................
I didn't know they made these bulbs either until I read your post. Does the Halogen bulb draw more current?

Default Bal 1

I also have the bright *** light BAL 1, and when I called about the $400 BAL 2, if I remember correctly, they said that it was for law enforcement or parades where you want the brightest light available. For 99.99% of the people, the BAL-1 is plenty bright, and as other have said, it can be made to look bright, flash and then go steady when activated, and 23 combinations of paterns and brightness.

I think mine cost around $199, and I got a 10% discount and free shipping because their webite said that dealer X was an authorized dealer, so when I went to dealer X, the parts guy didn't have clue and said they didn't sell the lights. When I went back to the factory, they appologized and gave me another dealer who had them, and a discount code. The new dealer was offering free shipping on orders over a certain amount, and I qualified.

Definitely bright and when sitting at a traffic light, I watch cars approaching from the rear, and when they get 100 yds or so away, I will hit the brakes and it is amazing to see them dip their nose as they brake.

BrightAssLights BAL-1. It's a plug and play replacement for the stock taillight unit.

Unscrew old unit. Unplug and set aside.

Press BAL-1 gasket into housing. Plug in. Screw on.

Done.

yea, reminds me of a time at the beginning of the summer when I was riding behind someone with the same gear and lights (or lack of them) on a street-light road at around 1am. It was AMAZING. The guy totally disappeared between streetlights, except for a golf-ball sized dull red blip about 10 inches off the road. It was like a goddamned magic show. GONE! then visible for a second as we passed under a streetlight.. then GONE.

His bike--his choice.
Man, I am so tired of hearing that on this forum. You people say "choice" more than a group of pregnant feminists.

It's his choice to have his bike barely visible? Really? I didn't know that, i thought he was being forced. thanks for clearing that up.

Jeeezzzzzzz

Being visible to other drivers on the road is actually not a choice at all, that is why you have mandatory lighting and reflective material that needs to be on the bike.

If someone wants to get killed more power to them, but it isn't fair to the guy or girl who has to live with making your wife a widow because she couldn't see you when plowed into you.

I will NEVER go to that link or the forum it represents because I detest their business practices.
