Default Trip meter reads alot higher than odometer

I'm looking at buying a used 2011 fatboy and the trip meter reads 10043 and the odometer is reading 1043 miles. What is causing this or is this tampering with odometer?

I don't know about the trip meter for a 2011 but on my 04 fatty both of my trip meters have a decimal point to read in tenths of a mile. Could it be you just overlooked that?

+1 - trip meter has a decimal point ( 1/10ths of a mile ), odo doesn't.
Of course the trip's can be reset to zero at any time, so I wouldn't expect them to match anyway.

Reset it to zero and take the bike for a 10 mile ride. Re-check.

Sure you didn't get that backwards? My trip meter resets to 0 after 999.9.

I'm confused. Your post below said you bought a used Fat Boy back in June and today's post says your looking to buy one. Also, you can't distinguish the odomoter from the tripometer. Are you serious, or just having a little fun? If you're for real, excuse my skepticism.

I did buy one back in june. I looking at a getting a second fat boy. the second used fat boy on the trip is reading 10043 (the tenth is at .2) just trying to figure out why the trip reading is reading higher than odometer reading of 1043 I did zero out the trip and took it for a 5 mile drive and its reading 1048 on odometer. is it possible for the trip meter to give false reading??

Default The newer bikes have two different odometers

A and B. You need to make sure you're looking at the right ones. A is actual mileage and B is for any other reason you can think of for keeping track of mileage, this one can be reset like the trip meter.
