Probably a lot of that. Many people realize they would be afraid to ride a motorcycle, so their reaction is to try to explain to themselves (by telling you) why they're not really "afraid" they're just "smarter than you." If they don't do that, then they are left with the feeling that they're more cowardly than you, which is not as good as being smarter. We see exactly the same on every "helmet/no helmet" thread.

I had a good friend died in a bike wreck andhave known others that have died in them as well, but look how many die in cars each day and we all just get in a go liek we are sitting on the couch. There are many many things in life that can and will kill you when it's your time. Ride safe hope and pray for the best and live your life.

I know the risk involved and I think that is part of the excitement of riding. I say a pray when I get on the bike for protection and that I will ride with awareness and skill. I think when I get cocky and arrogant then I am in danger. I always ride like the cages are out to kill me!
