Default Western boots for riding?

Ok here's the deal. My wife came home from a "girl's weekend" with a pair of western boots that she bought for herself (Tony Lamas), and they look great on her.
We started talking and she said that I would look good with a pair of cowboy boots as riding boots, so who am I to blow against the wind???

I've found some that I like, but my question is about the soles. some of the ones I like have leather soles. Is there anything that can be done to leather soles to give them enough traction for riding?

Yes any real shoe-boot store can put thin rubber soles on leather. By real boot store im referring to one that also repairs, resoles boots. A pair of elephants will last a life time.

Asphalt will shred those leather soles!

I have some western style boots with thick rubber-like soles. After a couple months of riding, they are not worn at all.

I were them all the time - they make my *** look great ! LoL. Except for riding. I think they'd be too slick unless you can flat foot easily. One thing I won't were anymore are my prickly bottomed sketcher tennis shoes. Kept getting hung up on the gear shifter.

Justin Mule Skins - Comes with Vibram soles, rain will not effect them, a very durable boot.

Don't know about you but I wear boots with a vibram type sole and I am often glad I have that extra grip they give.

Never tired CB boots while riding,, but I know my TL's didn't last very long at work on the cement.. the soles wore out really fast.. Then I had them re-done only to find they where never the same. I finally just quit wearing them..

Never liked slip on cowboy boots. It they just slip on then if you ever have to lay it down and your foot gets caught under it, they can just slip off. Then, that just leaves your sock between you and the asphalt. Saw a guy in the emergency room about a month ago that that happened to and he now has no ankle and most of the outside side of his foot scraped away. I will stick with the lace up, zip up and strap on ones thanks.
