I used to dislike Bud too. But after some colon surgery (Cancer), Bud & Miller High Life are the only beers my system will tolerate in un-moderation.
My former favorties send me to the reading room...

I did choke on the $6.00 Buds at FTS in Sturgis, speaking of price gouging...

same here. We bought one each and made it last for a while.

Deadwood is the place to go for cheap beer. $.75 drafts at the casinos, free if you shove a dollar in a slot machine.

Prices at Sturgis make Daytona look like a bargain. My buddy had a flat. Black Hills HD charged $300 to replace. His towing bill was over $100. Another friend rented a bike from them and they doubled their normal rate - $250 per day! Plus, I've never seen a $5 beer at any rally I've ever attended. Concerning possible theft - I purchased a windshield lock because I was told it may disappear... The riding was spectacular and maybe one day I will return, but I haven't done Laconia or Laughlin, which may be better deals (or not).

Not dissin Stugis or those who go. I just don't like any touristy place. Doesn't matter where or what. Always a PITA, loaded with theives and expensive. I'd rather take Twisted's advice and just go for a quiet ride somewhere.

That's cool - glad to hear someone reasonable got back to you.

Too bad you had a bad experience this year. Sometimes that happens and it's not just a "Sturgis thing". Stuff can get stolen off yer bike anywhere. I was worried my T-bag would get lifted pretty much everywhere we went, but didn't happen. Not being a dick - just sayin - if your parked illegally anywhere, you're taking a chance. And like anyplace, prices go up for a rally which shouldn't surprise anyone. You gotta pay to play and if rallys are your thing, it'll cost ya. Kinda like going to a ball game and having that $7 beer.

That said, they are not my thing. But, as timing would have it, we spent the night in Rapid City (the last Saturday of the rally) on the way back from a big circle tour. The room rate was $125 and the beer from the gas station 8 bucks. The pizza under $20. Can't say South Dakota got much of my money. It was cool to see all the bikes and riders.

Honestly, the best thing about Sturgis was meeting all the people on the road, usually in the middle of nowhere at some gas station or restaurant, who were on their way there.

I'm with you. I'd bitch too! Maybe the chamber or city council will bring a stop to that ****. I know..."it happens everywhere" but maybe if enough people do bitch about it it'll stop some of the low life gouging.

ride safe

This trip to Sturgis has to be the worst yet for me and my buddies. First mine and a buddies bikes were towed away off of 3rd and Lazelle. We were parked by about 40 other bikes on third st and only about 5 or 6 were towed. 2 of the bikes that were parked about 3 bikes away that didn't get towed were blocking a fire hydrant. How do you pick just a few bikes out of 40 or more and only tow those. So we find out where the were towed and walk the 2-3 miles to get them. I was expecting a $50-$60 tow bill.....uhmmm NO. They charged $140 to tow the bikes......a piece. We argued but to no avail. I called today to ask the tow company how much they would charge me to tow my "broken down bike" from main to a local address, the lady said $63. Price gouging? I think so. Next another buddy had his t-bag stolen off his bike with his and his wifes rain gear and a couple brand new sweatshirts from Harley and a couple pairs of riding glasses. Now to top it off the people we rented from e-mailed say they would not be giving our $500 deposit back because of a spot on their carpet and a set of blinds that would not open. Man it was expensive this year. All that said I will still go back but we seemed to be jinxed this year. I have contact the chamber of commerce in Sturgis and they agreed that the towing company was gouging and gave me some numbers to report them but not sure what good it will do. Sorry about being long winded but I am still kinda of pissed of

Send this rite up to (letter to the editor) of the local paper in Sturgis. If he puts it in the paper it might help for next year.
