How to stop flaking chrome?
My previous experience with HD chrome has been good. I ran a LightningStar wheel on my Sportster for over 10 years and it's still perfect.
Last year I bought a HD solid chrome wheel for the rear of my Heritage. This year I had to replace the tire. ( I DO ride my motor, lol). The chrome on the inside of the wheel is starting to flake off!
The flaking has not gotten to the outside of the wheel ... yet. It will in the future, just a matter of time according to my wrench.
Is there any way to stop this ... or is rechroming my only option.

if you grind the flaking chrome to where it is attached good it may help..most likely the chrome flaking is a sign that it wasn't plated good, and is loose all over.
i would try to grind it smooth in the bad spot if its hidden and wait till it does spread before replacing..if you have it rechromed all the old chrome will have to be removed first..i don't know much about that part
