Are breakdowns part of the Harley Experience?

I've had 4 Harleys over the last 11 years.
3 new, 1 used.
Never a breakdown on any of them.
First bike (new Sporty) had a leak the first couple days....bad batch of head gaskets. 1 hour fix, but I rode it to the shop so that's not a breakdown.
2...used bike.... never a problem ever.
3...new, had it two years, never a problem.
4...new. In shop twice now. First was just the used bracket for the exhaust I bought 2nd hand was bent just enough that it pinched my brake light wire & shorted the fuse out. But bike ran. Second time was my dumb *** dropping it like a total n00b. Rode it to shop for repairs to fairing, saddlebag and other cosmetic stuff.
So no, I can honestly say that it's NOT.

Break Down
I am on my third HD.
Only thing that ever happened to me was a shorted out battery (maybe because the bike was stored for a month in between houses). It was covered under warranty and now I use a battery tender.
Besides the battery I never had a problem; would buy another Harley any day.

Break downs are no fun. I had a dead battery on mine as I was fueling up on the 2nd day of owning it. Good thing it happened half-a-block away from the HD dealership. I still had to granny-walk it over. But now it's running like a champ. [...knock-on-wood.]

Seems to me that your dealer, that you paid to PDI the bike before delivery, didn't do such a great job in making sure everything is tight. That is what would **** me off more so then the fact, that it should have been tightened and torqued properly at the plant.
Breakdowns suck, especially on the first day.
Sorry for your trouble.
How'd you make out with the front fender???
