Default Transmission fluid question

Hi guys/girls,

I just bought Red Line 80w motorcycle gear oil with shockproof for my transmission. However, I'm reading that this is for sportsters. The regular Redline Tranny Oil is rated at 90w, so is there that much of a difference? Will I be OK running the 80w in my 10 Wide Glide? Thanks for the input!

Jon

ps. don't want to start a "what kind of fluids are you running" thread and get a thousand different answers! Just need an answer to this question! Thanks!

For Ur 10 WG, Heres what I tried and now use on our 07 Heritage.

So far I've used 4 different tranny oils after the 1k,

Once with SYN3, didn't really like; seemed to thin.

Then twice with Forumla+, it wasn't bad;

Then dealer recommended Bel-Ray80-140, Didn't like it at all, too heavy for our temps and was really stiff for the first 10 minutes of riding. Took it out after a couple weeks.

Then tried Mobil 1 GL 75-90, IMO I like it the best and have stuck with it for the last 5 changes.

On U sporty,, I really don't know.. Asking this In the Sporty section will get U a lot of answers or even just look it up in the sporty area.

This is what happens when you over analyze things like oil. Never really based in FACT, just mostly opinions. For a FACT, H-D says that SYN3 works in all three holes on the late model big twins as in no warranty issues. From my experience, the SYN3 is also as quiet as Redline super heavy. Other than that, use what you want.

I don't think anyone is reading your question. The 80 should be fine. I would change to 90 the next time.

Glad you got it straighened out. Sportsters lube the chain case with the transmission, so probably need a little lighter fluid for the clutch. Otherwise, transmissions are pretty much alike. I would think the 90 would be better though.
