shame that doesn't fly at trade in time, well at least around here it doesn't. last Harley I traded in the salesman told me to strip her since it didn't make any difference on what I would get.
private owner sale I'm sure is different though

The two main reasons have already been mentioned. First being supply and demand, mostly demand. The second is the timeless look of the HD models. I would add a 3rd reason which really builds on the first two which is a very strong used bike business through HD dealerships which back those sales with generous financing. Dealers are able to keep the selling price high. This in-turn allows private sellers to maintain a higher price as well.

even though there cheaper used now more than ever because of making more of them yearly and the loss of good jobs.

There is still more buyers than bikes.

Desirability, higher MSRP, low production number compared to other makes, the Harley Davidson "lifestyle" or purists who will only buy H-D, the heritage, and the fact that the bikes are typically not ragged out like the Japs are. That contributes to the value of other "sporty" bikes going up, such as Triumphs.

Demand for them and thats is it. Even now with all prices depressed Hd still bring a lot more than used metrics.
Hard to even give a used metric away
