First post, first Harley, I finally "GET IT"!!! (long read)

I have also had a loads of different bikes over the years and had a dad who hates bikes with a vengeance , i had a 12 year lay off from riding when we had our first baby , i passed my car test then ( i couldn't fit a baby seat on the bike and didn't fancy a side car) , i was 33 , Ive got 3 children now aged 12 , 8 & 5 , i got back into bikes about 18 months ago , i bought a new vivid black nightster .
Ive now got a 2011 vivid black fat bob ( the nightster was a little to small , and I'm big )
I think if like me and the OP , you love all things bike , you will always get drawn back into it in some form or another , and there comes a time when a cruiser makes sense , not to fast (safe) , but still kinda cool , theres no need to screw the **** off it to have fun and your only limited by the bike and not your own fading skill level .
if i have to have a cruiser, then , its got to be an original , and not a jap copy , so at this stage in my life a Harley makes perfect sense .
times change and so do people , now i love the bikes i used to hate when i was young and reckless , there much cooler than they used to be , the iron , nightster and the gorgeous 48 are all aimed at the younger riders , or us old git's who want to feel young again ,
once you get into the Harley thing , its going to be hard to get out , they do a great line up of bikes and are very good when it comes to advertising and marketing , i think i get it too , either that or they managed to get me .
have fun and ride safe

My most recent addition to the family was an FNP 45 and I can't say enough great things about it.

Thank you all for your kind words.
I think I may try to plan a road trip for next summer to ride from Central IL to Deadwood SD and back.
I know that these days Deadwood is a real touristy place, but I have always been fascinated with the history of the town, and of course when the show Deadwood finally hit the air it increased my fascination 100x.
I was in the black hills as a child, many years ago, I'm thinking its time I ride out there as an adult and see it with new eyes.
Should be about 1000 miles each way, I could do it in three days if I took it easy, or two if I really pushed. (8.5hrs a day each day).
I'd love to have some friends to go with, but I'm the only person I know who rides, so this will probably be a nomad trip.
