First post, first Harley, I finally "GET IT"!!! (long read)

I still remember with crystal clarity, the feeling of that first bike.
I have a feeling that when I'm lying somewhere dying, breathing my last breath, I'll probably drift back to those lazy summer afternoons on my first bike, as I cannot imagine a feeling more comforting.
Cool! Welcome, and have fun!

Great post. Enjoyed the read very much.
Post back again with an update after you've shown the bike to your Dad, LOL
The Iron 883 is a gorgeous bike, that and the 48 both had me seriously looking at Sportsters for a while.

My theory was that since most rider induced accidents happen in the first two years, if I told him on year 3-4, he could relax a bit.
So, once I got my Warrior, I told him about it and showed him pics, etc....he was nervous at first but over the years he relaxed. I think once he saw how seriously I take riding (and especially safety, I'm an AGATT kind of guy and make no apologies for it) he started to understand that it wasn't just a passing interest for me.
Thanks to you gentlemen for your kind words.
Oh, almost forgot: Yes the GF definitely wants to hop on the back, but my 883 just isn't the right bike for that. It would need heavy shocks, probably a 2" lift, passenger seat, sissy bars, pegs, etc....all stuff I do NOT want on this bike.
My plan is to wait until this is one is paid off (should be paid in full by next summer) and then look for a used Dyna that is already setup for two-up riding, and we'll take road trips on that.

Congrats on your purchase. I too had a Triumph 650 Bonni, loved that bike, but such as life. Good luck with your mods, please ride safe so you can come back and show us what you have done to the Harley.

Enjoy the ride! My brother in law was riding a metric & I was trying to explain the Harley thing to him...I finally ended it with you'll understand when you get one. A couple of weeks later he bought a 2011 Roadking Classic. He now gets it! Nothing better than the rumble of a Harley Davidson V-Twin rumbling between your legs! Well, almost nothing better! lol

Glad you finally were honest with your Dad. Dishonesty is an acid that rots relationships. Are you sure you're not another multiple personality of Captain Chaos? Odd coincidence with 2 posts the same day about getting it/not getting it, on an 883. LOL.
Enjoy your bike. Be careful with your bike and even more with your girlfriend.
