Sometimes people surprise me

Walk down the street in NYC and actually get the average New Yorker to speak to you. They look at you like you have a 3rd eye or worse. Alot of them don't want to get involved or are leery of being taken. They just don't engage. That said, there are nice friendly people there. You just ahve to get to them under that protective layer.

I drive a truck for a living. Last week I was passing through a small town in Ohio. I got stopped at an intersection waiting for their summer celebration parade to pass through town. As I was sitting there, a man I have never seen before in my.life walked over to my truck and asked me if I would like an ice cream cone while I waiting. I gladly accepted and thought how nice small town America can be.

There are certainly nice people everywhere, but most people seem to be to caught up in themselves to care about their fellow human being. I was stopped at a rest stop once, on a long solo road trip. The weather had been horrible, nothing but miserable cold rain. My rain suit had done a half way decent job, but I was still a little wet, and quite chilly. Now, this was one of those rest stops that was basically a bath room and a parking lot, not much else aside from a coke machine. An older woman parked beside me and we started chatting a little, as she was asking me about my bike, and where I was headed. Then she says "where are my manners, I have a thermos of coffee in my car, would you like a cup?" Could have been the worst coffee ever, but boy did it hit the spot.

I don't care what anybody says, I agree with the OP, country is where the "good people live".
A few months back I was riding around up north of the lake, mostly Amish country, on now a long forgotten county road. I finally came to a intersection and pulled over to rest my old butt and stretch my legs. I couldn't have been there for more than 15 minutes and two trucks and a van came by and EACH of them stopped to see if I was OK.
Yeah, tell me they will do that in LA. Well, not counting stopping to mug you.
