Default Sticky Helmet

I am currently wearing a half helmet and I noticed recently it has been getting some sticky residue on the front. I have tried everything to remove it, soap and water, Harley Bug Cleaner, rubbing alchohol. Nothing seems to take it off, it is actually just spreading it around to make a bigger sticky section. Does anyone know what this is and how to clean it?

Thanks

Oops, sorry. I get a little excited around half helmets.

Turn it around and it'll be on the back, then U wont see it...

Ok,, really, How old is it.?.

Could be the clear coat breaking down and turning soft. Also where U store it can deteriorate the shell, if stored near other chemicals.

Might just use a Scotch pad to rough up the surface, then clean it off with paint thinner or such. Then tape it off and repaint it.

I repainted the one in my sig cause I bought it white then decided to go black. I would not paint over the DOT sticker.

If it was on the inside , I'd say it was hair spray.

my skid lid did the same thing, i think its just the flat black paint they used, it breaks down from the sun. I just kept using mineral spirits on it until it came off. now its half painted and half bare plastic. if i get ambitious I'll repaint it.( probably not...lol)

Thanks for all the responses. I think it is because of the flat black paint as well. Didnt start getting like this until I took a long ride in 100 plus weather and left it out on bike a few times. Its a cheapo from walmart and Im not really attached to it. Looking for a new one soon. I also tried goo gone and it didnt work.

My wife bought a new flat black half helmet from wal-mart a month or two ago.It is doing the very same thing. We thought something had gotten spilled on it and then started eating the paint off.I will show her this thread so she will get off my back about spilling something and ruining her new helmet...
