'06 Electra Glide Standard starting question
Is it normal for my 2006 Electra Glide Standard (FLHTi) to start in gear without the clutch engaged? Just seems dangerous to me but, mine does and no one I have asked seems to know for sure.
Thanks,

My guestion is why would you do that on purpose? I own one and I have hit the starter with it in gear and I see no reason why it would not be possible to start it in gear with the clutch out. Especially if it were on a jack stand.

I would never do it on purpose JDB. I just bought it last weekend and while showing it to people, I didn't realize it was in gear and hit the start button and it almost rolled off the kickstand. I have a Yamaha Virago XV1000 and it will not try to start in gear with the clutch out. I just want to know if this is by design or something missed during work done.

Harley will start in gear and has no side stand kill switch. Doesen't have all the safety switches your use to and need to familarize youself with it.

I've had bikes that had switches to detect clutch lever and neutral position so they couldn't start without one or the other, I've also had bikes that didn't care. I learned pretty quick to pull the clutch in even if I thought it was in neutral. Sorry, this doesn't really answer the question, but I would think any modern bike would have safety devices in place to keep you from giving yourself whiplash, or worse, watching your bike lurch off the kickstand and fall over.
