Default U-Haul Trailer

So the wife an I rented a cabin in the mountains in late September for a week and will need to pack a lot of goods for the trip. I planned on just renting a Uhaul trailer to tow my bike to our little hideaway.

I went online yesterday to Uhaul to book the rental and I was rejected because I have a Ford Explorer. This is the exact message it spits out:

"U-Haul has chosen not to rent behind this tow vehicle based on our history of excessive costs in defending lawsuits involving Ford Explorer towing combinations."

My question is, has anyone run into this before and if I just walk into the local Uhaul will they just rent it to me?

Who else rents motorcycle trailers?

Looks like it's a corporate policy:

Don't think the shop will let ya, unless it's an independent.

Wow, I thought this was a joke.

Guess the lawyers in the US have been real busy.

I found it cheaper to buy a used trailer than rent one if that's any help. I bought a Kendon dual rail folding trailer for $500.

Weird, they rented to me just fine and I have the Escape which is much smaller than the Explorer. Wonder if it is because of the the tire problem that the Explorer had some years back? Bought a used landscape trailer with the full gate/ramp for $900. The U-Haul I rented had a steel floor so I could not mount a chalk, longest 600 miles of my life, just something to keep in mind.
