two up touring..softail or dresser?

RE: two up touring..softail or dresser?
I don't like the way my Deuce handles 2 up. I doubt if a Heritage is much different, since it's built on the same chassis. There are probably people who are perfectly happy two up on softails. Not me. I think it sucks. It totally changes the handling and feel of the bike. Get a road king or whatever. You mentioned that you had a road king previously. Did you have a problem with it? I love the RK classic. Beautiful bike in my opinion.

Any bike can be a decent touring bike if you can plan your trip based on the bike's strengths and limitations. I have several friends that tour on a Heritage. Although they are currently owners of a new Ultra, I think it had more to do with the ability to carry that "extra hair drier" than anything else. Enjoy which ever bike you choose.

hey i probably can help you out on this one since i own a 04' heritage and now also a 07' ultra
1st let me say this i love my heritage and thats why i now have 2 bikes!
2nd my wife and i do alot of 2up riding (she just rather be on the back) we put 20k on the 04' and it wasn't all around town we did some long distance rides from s.jersey to coastal n.c 1325 miles round trip,w.va. tenn. mtns of pa. etc. we put alot of hours and miles on it and loved every minute.
3rd. after 3 years of touring this way we decided to take the plunge and do the geezer glide and after our 1st trip to va. aprrox.700 mi.round trip i asked her if she found it more comfy her reply was only 1 complaint she kept falling asleep!!!! so now i ride the heritage solo and we only 2up on the ultra!
final answer is: if you are going to do mostly 2up long distance= spend the xtra $ you won't be sorry!
if you are doing 2up with mostly short rides= go with the heritage it will do anything you ask it to do! just replace the stock pillion with a wider one and add passenger floorboards it will increase comfort 90% hope this helps!

Well said. You are right on the money. I wish we could all afford to have the town bike and the cross county bike. That is the way to go if you can afford to tie up 50K in Harleys.

RE: two up touring..softail or dresser?
When I was looking for a bike this year I was thinking about the Heritage Classic, but once
I started thinking about the type of riding I'd be doing(mostly commuting and longish rides)
I decided to go with the RK Classic. Glad I made this decision.

It believe for the shorter riders you can buy an Ultra Glide with the seat height lowered. I think the one that comes from the CVO division with the big engine has a lowered profile. A figure of 27.6" sticks in my mind. Anybody know about this model?

Once again, thanks for all the responses...I am going to try to test ride a Heritage with my wife and then we will decide, but, at this point, we are leaning toward a Road King....having owned one (RK), we have a pretty good idea what has to be done to make it work for us...ride safe
