The thing is what do you consider to be a long road trip? For some a 200-300 mile day ride is a pretty good day while for others 400-500 miles a day is the norm for a Sunday ride . I’ve run some 500 mile days but for the most part my weekend rides will run about 300 miles for the day. A 300 mile day is no problem running two up on a Softail the biggest thing to help the ride on a Softail is get a good seat and add a backrest for the wife it makes a world of difference

read in another thread that some here are of the opinion the softtails do not make a good choice for two up touring...I was personally thinking about a Heritage Classic in the spring, but, the majority of my riding is with my wife on the back, and I want to take some long road trips, as well...any comments or feedback would be appreciated....thnks, lestele
I don't own either one and even I know the answer to this one.

If you want the most comfort two-up riding, and that is your requirement, you should be looking at the tourers. I am sure the Softtails are quite capable, obviously. But the tourers were made for hauling around two people, with a lot of luggage, over long distances.

THat said, I do like that Heritage Classic. Sweet looking bike.

I agree with this completely. I have an ElectraGlide Classic and the wife has a Heritage Softail. About 2 years ago I broke a belt on the Roadking I had at the time and we rode the wife's Heritage 450 miles home two up. The Heritage is not the ideal two up touring bike. It's possible, but it's not ideal.

Regards,

Bill

once again, thanks for the responses...Confuzed, the riding you talked about NJ to NC, etc., is exactly what I have in mind...if it were just day trips, 200 - 300 milers, I wouldnt hesitate to buy the Heritage....btw, on both of the last 2 harleys I have owned, the first thing to go was the stock seat, replaced by Mustang...

Heritage Softail with tour package and passanger floor boards is an extemely capable long haul bike. My one complaint about the Heritage is performing shock adjustments to compensate for full load two-up. I usually just leave the shocks adjusted resulting in a harsh ride solo.
I compare the ride difference between a glide and softail to that of a Mecedes and BMW respectively, and I prefer the BMW. I like to feal the road and know that the bike is connected too it.
I tour with glides all the time and have no problems keeping up with either speed or distance.
The Heritage with a tour pack has as much cargo capacity as a glide minus the storage in the lowers.

With out a doubt the best long distance touring machine for two-up that Harley makes is Ta-Dah: the Road Glide.
