I think you meant when is a bike considered an antique. Most states will register a vehicle with historical plates once it is 20 years old.

A car or a motorcycle can be an antique but it never will be a classic. A classic is a vehicle that has a design that gave it a timeless beauty, special mechanics and or performance for it's time, impressive quality, things that made it stand out when it rolled off the assembly line. It was a classic from the day it hit the showroom floor. Duesenberg, from the beginning.

Popularity does not qualify a vehicle as a classic. Their is no Ford that is considered a classic.

Also once a classic vehicle is no longer stock, it was a classic.

 

Suppose I have to disagree here...IMO first knuckle definitely fits the category, think the first Mustangs fit the bill and I consider my Cameo a classic and not an antique...

There are other designs and models (not just HD) where technology combined with fitment and style that could also fall into place as well. Guess it is just opinion...

 

With a Harley, anybody will tell you the cut off for today's "classic", is 1998 when they quit producing the 80 CI Evo's.

 

When you make the last payment?

 

Simple test. Look at the bike, now close your eyes. Can you picture skinny-Elvis riding it with young-Ann Margaret on back? If so, then it's a classic.

 

Mine has been a classic since day 1. It even says it right on the bike, Ultra Classic.

 

My stock 67 FLH is a classic.. Don't believe me, just ask me.
