Not to try and start any debate on helmets. Just pointing out that the opinion at the time of the NY State Police that he would have survived with a helmet might have been BS. He had chest trauma and punctured heart lining. I don't care what you do or wear, just don't like anytime someone dies without a helmet that must be why they died. Also the story gives a little info on what kind of person he was. What I like to call a good American.

Disclaimer: The preceding is just an opinion, no brain cells were damaged in the forming of said opinion. You may chose to disagree, but I am right. I don't post much because not even I really care about my opinion and yours will not change mine. LOL

Well written story. I don't know about the rest of you but sounds like a few people I know and respect.
Rest in Peace.

Well written story - very sad about his death, but glad someone is telling his story and his right to choose, and not pushing to make him a "poster boy" for something he didn't believe in.

I had a bad crash in 2006. Five ribs broken in nine places, banged up kidney and spleen, punctured and collapsed lung and road rash on arms and head. Helmet might have prevented the road rash on my head but that's it.

+1... well-said, that's what I was thinking, too.

People are quick to use anything that they believe will support their agenda. A number of years back when my brother came down with cancer in his mouth the Doctors were quick to announce that it was a result of smoking. When he pointer out that he had only smoked for a year at most and that was over 40 years ago they said.
"Oh....well then I don't know what caused it. Sometimes people come down with it for no apparent reason."
