Default Screaming Eagle II baffle questions

Edit: False Alarm... I got them out.

Wanted to hear what the bike sounded like without the baffles in my SE IIs, just out of curiosity. Removed the small nuts and bolts. Hooked the baffle with a tool and pulled. And pulled some more. Dang thing wouldn't budge. Thought about anchoring a cable to something solid and dropping the clutch at wide open throttle, but decided that "stupid" might hurt.

So how do I get those damned things out of the muffler? Slide hammer? Or should I just tie them off and drop the clutch?

Sorry Ranger, I just rediscovered the search function. And I was just about to do it. I just needed a bigger hammer.

After the screws are removed, you should be able to see if your baffles are also secured with small rivets or welds. These will need to be ground off as well. Quite simple once you figure out a good tool to access them.

Hole Puncher, Do you like the sound of your SE II with the baffles out? If you do and want to sell the baffles, let me know.

I recently tried to get the baffles out of my Rush slip ons. The insides rattle and I got some packing material from Rush to fix the problem. Long story short is I now have stripped heads on the screws that hold the baffles in place. Now what? Live with the rattle or new slips ons? damn.

If you are done experimenting with them you could replace the screws with rivets.

not true. I've replaced SE II baffles and they pull out when you remove the 2 bolts per muffler. No grinding needed

I need to get the screws out first. The heads were like mush, not the hardened steel I was expecting. I'm no wiz when it comes to wrenching, but I figured I could manage getting a screw loose. Guess not, at least not yet.
