to me its no differant than buying a car, walk out they usually call you back, get your firm number and stick with it. try a few differant dealers. in this day with money tight they will deal.
If it's not the right deal be prepared to walk away. If you are too in love with the bike and can't live without they'll pick up on that, and you'll end up screwed. I hate the sales guys that ask "what do you need your payment to be?" and you end up with a 15 year loan paying $80 / mth and $30k in interest.
Financially speaking, it makes no sense to ever buy a new vehicle/motorcycle, especially from a dealer. Pre-owned ( from private owners) will always be your best value and, in today's economy, there are nice deals if you're patient and do your homework.

On any vehicle I always try and get the smallest payment over the most time, if the loan has no early repayment penalties. I can always put down a lot more on my payments when my pockets are full, and if something really bad happens (wreck, sickness, layoff, etc.) I may be able to make the smaller payments. The important thing is to have discipline and pay ahead when you can.
