Default It's time for me to go

First I want to say Happy Veterans Day to all that have served, are serving, and will serve our great Country. For me, it has truely been an honor and one hell of a ride, but all things must come to an end. I have talked with lots of retirees about when did they know it was time; they all said, "You just know when the time has come." Well, my time has come. I have 1 more step on finalizing my retirement date of 1 Oct 2007 to close this chapter of our life after almost 23 years of service. We are hoping to start a new chapter in the Scott AFB area (Belleville, IL area) depending on the job market there for me. We should be leaving Germany in May-June (can't wait to get back to the states) and be looking for [sm=biker2.gif] where ever we end up.

Again ... Happy Veterans Day ... [sm=americanasmiley.gif]

As I always say to senior NCO's, thanks for paving the way. Hopefully I'll retire a senior or chief, too. Congrats on a successful career, though.

Happy Veterans day to you too. Yes it's true, "You just know when the time has come." I know just how you feel. I had the same experience in 1981. Switching to the civilian world is a major change in your life. In time you will settle into your new world and look back with fond memories. Congratulations on your retirement and thanks for your service.

Good Luck,
Blackbird

Thanks for your 23 years of service. Maybe we'll meet when you get to Belleville, I live a few miles north of there.
Where in Germany are you? I spent 3 years at Bitburg AB many years ago.

We are in Stuttgart and been to Bitburg many times and we do hope I can land a j.o.b. there ... really looks like a great area.

I have been tossing around the retirement question lately also. I have put in 19 1/2 years into the Air Force and it is very tempting to punch out. I love the military but am having a few issues with the work environment that I am stuck in. Part of me wants to gut it out and get through my last 2 years at my current job and move on. The other part says throw it in and get out.

It is a big decision and I am sure you made the correct one. Hopefully I will also.

Thank you for your service to our country. My son is a SMSgt in the Air Force right now and has a little over 3 years to go for his 20 years. He doesn't know if he is going to retire or not. He will only be 38 years old at that time. Thanks again for your service.[sm=americanasmiley.gif]
