Is a soft tail comfortable enough to be a cruiser?
Hi. How does a soft tail's ride compare to a cruiser as far as long distance? Also, what kind of suspension does a cruiser have?

Been on my Springer Classic for 700 miles in a day and loved it. Rode to Sturgis and back - 2900 miles....Loved it! Of course there are softer rides but I didn't feel like I missed out on anything!

A softail has a sharper suspension response to things like pavement cracks and is not as smooth as the large touring models, but are very acceptable to a lot of riders. It's all up to your body and what you feel comfortable with. Personally, I can't handle the softail. The sharp jolts are too much for my problematic back. The Ultra is much smoother and my preference.

In my opinion the softail is fine for long distances (I put 32,000 mikes on a Fatboy), but they are best as solo ride. Many make them work and enjoy every mile. Having recently moved to a touring (FLHXI) I say it has definite comfort advantages. Surprisingly it handles (nimble) around town a little better than the Fatboy.
But that is just my opinion,

have a fatboy and ultra, touring best for 2 up and like it in nasty weather. 750miles a day ok on fatboy with windshield. 25000 miles a year.

There is nothing wrong with a Softail for touring. Especially if you are one up. They are not going to be quite as smooth, or handle as well as a dresser, but they are still quite capable. My wife has done 600+ mile days on her Heritage on several occasions, and she and I did a two up 450 mile day once.
