i would pull the motor and tear it down then just bring in the case have them fix it and put it back together, should get the price down to a few hundred bucks at most.

When you bought the bike was there an offer of an extended warranty? If so did you consider it? Turn it down...because?
Bike is out of warranty as you state, doesn't matter if it is one day or one month. Yeah it would be nice if MoCo did something but they are not. The dealership is doing you right with only charging 1200 for the teardown to reseal the cases.
If this is your last HD, too bad you are giving them up. Suppose you could do do it more quickly if you sold the bike now with the problem noted. You would take a bit of a hit on the sale, but you would be out from under ALL payments and you could move on to something more to your liking.

Don't know what exactly they are going to machine on the cases , a few thou and end play on the crank changes . I inspect the halves for gouges or damage and use lapping compound and seat the 2 halves together , couple rubs and you'll see any highs , lows or warped area's .

MIne must be defective, because none of the three, from 3-11 years old and bought used, has marked its spot yet.
