Checked out Collection X at the HD Museum-pics
They bill it as the "wild and weird wonders" of Harley Davidson. That pretty well describes it. It was a pretty nice collection of prototypes, one offs, art, etc. It proved to be a nice way to get out of the afternoon heat. Please forgive the photography.
V-Rod concept bike -
1981 "Nova". This was a joint venture between Porsche and Harley (Note the German flag colors). It's a water cooled V-4. If I recall correctly, they said it made 180 HP.
Water cooled dirt bike. Yep - a sign of the future - water cooling.
For you Jap bike lovers - a Japanese built "Rikuo R model" Harley clone using real HD tooling. Rikuo means "King of the Land".
I could dig one of these -
Would you believe an "Ice Cutter"?
Uhhhhh......this must have been the "weird" part -

Thx guys!
A few more from the special X.
An early developemental V-Rod. Obviously esthetics took a back seat to just getting the thing on the road.
One FAST HD!
They had a lot of strange clothing on display. I was hoping the gift shop would have one of these little numbers for the gf, but no dice.
I could not see a DOT sticker anywhere -
An old mining vehicle based on a 1926 single cylinder HD motor. They found it in a California gold mine in 1990 -
I'm heading out for a ride (before it gets too hot!), but tonight I'll post up some pics from the permanent exhibit. This is "Harley Davidson serial number 1"

Well it got too late to post last night, but it's a rainy morning so here's some more. Btw - every Thursday is "Bike Night" at the museum. Last night was a huge turnout. Hundreds of nice bikes.
A really nice 1918 Hack -
1935 Model "R"
A pretty 37 -
I really like this 46 WR Racer -
And this unrestored Jack Pine racer was really cool. I like the restored bikes, but I really love the old originals with the scars, rust, and oil -
The wall of tanks is really something to see. I should have taken a pic of the entire wall to give some scope, but basically it features tanks from the 40s up to now. I thought this was a nice example -
This was in the "restoration shop" upstairs -
One of the many, many cool bikes waiting in the wings up in the shop -
A room dedicated to tanks and body pieces -
I guess I like white and green! Here's a Booze Fighters commemorative bike.
more to follow....

Nice pics. The more look at them the more that I want to go see them for myself. That looks like one shined up place. Is the wall of tanks one tank for each year or are there multiple color schemes/ bikes represented?
