All bikes are nice to somebody out there...I sure plan on getting over 100k on mine...i am at 63000 now and it a 07 ...yes i have had some issues but a lot of metric bikes have issues also...don't let metric guys tell you metric bikes are 100% bullet proof...go to a metric shop and look at the service dept. They don't just replace brakes and tires and oil....they actually break too...And yes they have issues.

My friend with the Yamaha has problems. My co-worker who has 2 BMW's (since I've known him he has owned 2 harleys, a Kawasaki, and 4 BMW's) has had his touring one back to the dealer more than I've had mine in.

There all gonna break, sooner or later, just depends on how ya treat them

As a matter of fact I own a metric and have for years. I just recently purchased a 2001 Dyna (24K miles) and am just asking questions trying to get some info on what to expect. I purchased a service manual because I like to see what's inside, and for the most part I like the way it is made. One main difference inside the motor I see is, the Harley uses roller bearings everywhere and the Yamaha uses plain bearings in key areas. I don't say one is better than the other but I do read about some bearing failures on certain model Harleys. Thanks for responses and opinions.

I certainly see a hell of a lot more 20+ year old Harleys on the road than I do metrics. I very rarely see a metric from the 80's still running. Seeing one from the 60's or 70's is even more rare, and those are almost always a complete restoration from a basket case.

Conversely, I know of quite a few Harleys from the 80's or earlier that are still being ridden by their current owner, and have been ridden continuously since they were new.

I think part of it is that Harleys are less complex, usually, and much easier to maintain, and the parts are more easily available.

I guess if you want fast, go with a Dodge Tomahawk. It has what they call a theoretical speed of 450 mph. I'm not sure I understand what that means...
If you want a metric, the japanese make plenty that look like a Hog...OOPS!!
But I have and always be a Harley Davidson rider and dont give it a second thought cause thats my scoot of choice...

I think we pretty much agree that a HD is going to get beat in any kind of a race with a metric bike
I disagree. My FXDC is faster than both metric I owned previously. It is also faster than my brothers metric. From a stop, from a roll, matters not.
