I have done many changes on my 07 (bought in Aug. 06). After changing and going for a short ride, I have never seen the oil over the full mark.

Even at that the few ounces that remain is totally insignificant to the engine and its life cycle.

Scavenging is one of those "feel good" , "cheap insurance" and "peace of mind" things that are wholly without merit or substance. But it is one's machine so have at it. Do what you do.
Um, they're all dry sump oiling systems. The softy's oil bag is above the transmission, the Dyna's and Touring's are below it.

A waste of time and money . . . IMO it comes close to falling into the category of Cow Magnets but there are far worse things that one can do.

If you drink 2 Gallons of water, you'll pee clear too. So using this sort of logic, for sake of your good health, you should drink 2 Gallons of water before you take a leak!

Again, I'm not arguing the scavenger isn't a waste of money, I'm just saying that "I" fire the motor up before I spin the filter back on and run it for 10 to 15 seconds OR till the oil runs clear. THEN I put the filter on. In my limited experience, my oil stays cleaner longer. I can't see how you could disagree that doing this gets more dirty oil out of the system than not doing it does.

I did the fire up before spinning the new filter on trick once on my 3 quart FXR. I got, maybe 3 or 4 ozs of dirty oil out before the clear oil came. Maybe I did something wrong because I did not get a quart of dirty oil out.

Oh, I agree with you. A pint, tops.

But I am arguing this. Even if its just 4 ounces, would you rather have those four ounces of dirty oil in, or out of the system. For the little bit extra it costs, I just go ahead and do it.

16 ozs, yes absolutely get it out. 3 or 4 ozs? Not a big deal to me.
But, I have no qualms about purging the old oil out by simply leaving the oil filter off for a bit as opposed to buying a scavenger.
